Kindle App for iOS (version 6.26)
Date: 01/09/2010
Description:
I've repeatedly run into the variations of this bug. After doing some searches on social media, I was surprised to learn I wasn't the only one who has been confounded by this issue. Take a look at this thread, this is exactly the problem I have been running into repeatedly:
If a user buys a book an e-book from Amazon using mobile safari, a "Read Now" button, along with a prompt to open in Kindle, doesn't actually open the Kindle app. Instead, it drops the user in the app store listing for the Kindle iOS app. I know that Apple prohibited directly buying content from Amazon from within the Kindle iOS app, but why would being taken directly to the app be prohibited? Seems like something is wrong here.I have 200GB of space free on my iPhone, and I use the Kindle app most days, but for some reason every time I buy a Kindle book in Safari and tap "go to Kindle" it takes me to the App Store and I have to re-download the Kindle app. I presume this is a bug in app offloading?— Nick Lockwood (@nicklockwood) November 15, 2019
This sums it up pretty well!
I snagged a video of the problem today:It's hard to imagine how a bug in URL routing could make the App Store think an app isn't installed, but with today's Apple who knows...— Nick Lockwood (@nicklockwood) November 16, 2019
There are a couple of ways to get this problem to continually reproduce. Here's the easiest:I agree. Very aggravating! .@AmazonKindle .@Werner Is this a requirement from Apple? Couldn’t they throw up the banner after pressing the button to take directly into the app? .@AppleSupport pic.twitter.com/zNf5AbYYRt— Random iOS Bugs (@RandomiOSBugs) January 9, 2020
1. Using Mobile Safari, buy an ebook off of Amazon
2. Bookmark the page
3. Go back to the purchase page
4. Click on "Read Now"
5. From the "Open in "Kindle"" prompt, select "Yes"
Result: An "Open in "Kindle"" prompt does not take the user into the Kindle iOS app when selected. Dumps user in App Store
Expected: Affirmatively selecting "Yes" to an open in Kindle prompt should take the user inside of the Kindle iOS app - not to the App store listing
Go to a bookmarked mobile Safari page from a purchased e-book. Select "Read Now"...
Select the "Open" option...
Taken to the App Store listing?
