WordPress app for iOS: Facebook Messenger sharing via the Share Sheet results in invisible "Cancel" and "Send" options

iOS 13.3
WordPress app for iOS (version 13.9)
Date: 01/24/2020

Description:

A minor bug has just started happening with the WordPress iOS app and Facebook Messenger sharing of WordPress posts using the Messenger sharing option accessible via the Share Sheet.

The "Cancel" and "Done" buttons no longer appear if you are sharing a URL.

Take a look at this screenshot:

I am guessing that Facebook has made some sort of revisions to the Messenger SDK, as I am seeing this with many apps. Not very user friendly!

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download the WordPress app for iOS
2. Post something
3. Select "View Site"
4. Visit a post (a url) and select the share option
5. Select Facebook Messenger from the Share Sheet

Result: Sharing a WordPress URL using the Facebook Messenger option from the Share Sheet has a problem - users can't see the "Cancel" or "Send" options

Expected: Sharing a WordPress URL using the Facebook Messenger option from the Share Sheet should always result in visible "Cancel" and "Send" options

Open the WordPress app...

Select the "View Site" option...

Select the Share option...
Select the Messenger option...
No "Cancel" or "Send" is visible - even if the user designates someone to send it to...

RealSelf app for iOS: Opening up the iOS files app results in two Cancel options in search box

iOS 13.3
RealSelf app for iOS (version 6.2.2)
Date: 01/14/2020

Description:

Here's an odd one! This app happens when the RealSelf app opens up the iOS Files option to select a profile photo. This is not a very likely bug that anyone will encounter. Still, this little problem is the only time that I have ever seen this happen when opening up the Files app on iOS.

I'm tempted to believe that this is because the RealSelf app is doing something incorrectly when calling up the Files app.

This is easy to show - take a look:

This is the search of the Files app that is accessible via the RealSelf app. You have to look closely, but if you do, you will see that the "Cancel" option is duplicated. The usual, correct one, is on the right. A second, non-working one, appears inside of the search box, next to the microphone.

As a point of comparison, let's take a look at Rover, which has a similar entry into the Files app for uploading profile photos of prospective dog sitters:

Cancel button is not duplicated. If you click inside the search box...

The cancel button assumes the correct location to the right of the search input box and the microphone icon.

I've played around with a lot of apps, and i've always taken a glance at how (and wondered why) profile picture searches would need to call up the Files app for a photo. In all that time, i've never seen a bug with this behavior until now.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download the RealSelf app - create an account
2. Select "Me"
3. Select the settings gearbox icon in the upper right
4. From the "Settings" page select "Edit Your Profile"
5. Select the "Choose File" option under "Enhance your profile with a photo"
6. Select "Browse" to call up the Files app
7. Note the duplicated "Cancel" button

Result: Calling up the Files app UI from settings option inside of the RealSelf app results in a page where the "Cancel" button near the search input box is duplicated - appears to be unique to RealSelf

Expected: The "Cancel" button in the Files app UI accessible from the Settings portion of the RealSelf iOS should not be duplicated

Please see the attached screenshots.

From inside the RealSelf app, select the "Me" option and then select the gearbox icon in the upper right...

Select the "Edit Your Profile" option...

Select the "Choose File" button...

Select the "Browse" option...

Note the "Cancel" option is duplicated, with the white lettered Cancel option doing nothing - pressing it actually activates the microphone...

Unusual! Not sure if this is RealSelf's problem (which I suspect) or a problem with the Files app

Kindle app for iOS: The Open in Kindle dialog in Mobile Safari doesn't take the user to Kindle app - but to the app store!

iOS 13.3
Kindle App for iOS (version 6.26)
Date: 01/09/2010

Description:

I've repeatedly run into the variations of this bug. After doing some searches on social media, I was surprised to learn I wasn't the only one who has been confounded by this issue. Take a look at this thread, this is exactly the problem I have been running into repeatedly:

If a user buys a book an e-book from Amazon using mobile safari, a "Read Now" button, along with a prompt to open in Kindle, doesn't actually open the Kindle app. Instead, it drops the user in the app store listing for the Kindle iOS app. I know that Apple prohibited directly buying content from Amazon from within the Kindle iOS app, but why would being taken directly to the app be prohibited? Seems like something is wrong here.

This sums it up pretty well!

I snagged a video of the problem today:

There are a couple of ways to get this problem to continually reproduce. Here's the easiest:

1. Using Mobile Safari, buy an ebook off of Amazon
2. Bookmark the page
3. Go back to the purchase page
4. Click on "Read Now"
5. From the "Open in "Kindle"" prompt, select "Yes"

Result: An "Open in "Kindle"" prompt does not take the user into the Kindle iOS app when selected. Dumps user in App Store

Expected: Affirmatively selecting "Yes" to an open in Kindle prompt should take the user inside of the Kindle iOS app - not to the App store listing

Go to a bookmarked mobile Safari page from a purchased e-book. Select "Read Now"...

Select the "Open" option...

Taken to the App Store listing?

Kindle app for iOS: Share Sheet: Icons for Facebook and Goodreads not displaying

iOS 13.3
Kindle app for iOS (version 6.26)
Date: 01/09/2020

Description:

Minor problem with the Kindle app for iOS and the share sheet that the iOS uses. Two icons, the one for Facebook and the one for Goodreads, simply don't appear in the list of apps in the share sheet. The icons (the images of the Facebook and Goodreads logos) are blank.

This still reproduced after updating the app to 6.26. This continued to reproduce after deleting the re-downloading the app.

Here's an image of what I am seeing....

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download the Kindle app for iOS - log into your account
2. Head to any book, hit the recommend button to bring up the Share Sheet
3. Scroll down and look at Goodreads and Facebook, listed in the "Suggested app" portion

Result: No icons/images for either Goodreads or Facebook when they are listed in the "Suggestions" or "Favorites" apps inside the share sheet menu option used by the Kindle app for iOS

Expected: The Goodreads and Facebook icons should always display in the "Suggestions" and "Favorites" section of the share sheet displayed by the Kindle app for iOS

Click the share option to bring up the share sheet - this reproduced on older version of the app, and with 6.26...

Click on the "More" option to bring up the lists of apps displayed under "Favorites" and "Suggestions"

Scroll down, and look for "Facebook" and "Goodreads" under suggestions...

No icons/images display next to "Goodreads" or "Facebook"
