KIXIFY - Buy & Sell Sneakers app for iOS: Overly intrusive Twitter permissions required to create an account

 iOS 14

KIXIFY - Buy & Sell Sneakers app for iOS (version 3.0.1)

Date: 09/21/20

Description:

Not sure what it is with Sneaker apps, but they sure do love to require extremely intrusive permissions from Twitter in order to create an account using Twitter credentials.

Take a look at the Twitter OAuth page that KIXIFY presents in order to create an account:

Take a look: "Send Direct Messages for you and read, manage, and delete your Direct Messages."

That's ridiculous, and no app that sells sneakers needs this level of access.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download and launch the KIXIFY app for iOS

2. Select the "Sign in with Twitter" option

3. From the Auth page, scroll down and note that "read, manage, and delete" permissions for Direct Messages is a requirement

Result: the KIXIFY app requires Twitter users to grant the app read, manage and delete access to Direct Messages in order to use Twitter credentials to create an account

Expected: the access to "read, manage, and delete" should NOT be allowed for Twitter accounts that use their account credentials to create an account on KIXIFY

Select the "SIGN IN WITH TWITTER" option...

Scroll down and check the permissions.

Feedback Assistant on an iPhone 8 running iOS 14: The Submit button and bottom banner frequently disappears in portrait mode

 iOS 14 - Safari Mobile

Date: 09/21/20

Description:

I've gotten so used to this problem, that I stopped noticing. I spotted it again yesterday, and I figured that I should finally report it.

This happens on feedbackassistant.apple.com website. The problem is with a bottom banner that has a blue "submit" button. This banner will frequently disappear after toggling through drop-down menus.

The "submit" button will reappear if the user changes the phone from portrait to landscape modes, but this is very confusing and frustrating when submitting feedback using Feedback Assistant.

Here's brief video of what I see:

This banner seems to go hidden if the user clicks inside and selects an

Steps to Reproduce:

1. With the iPhone in portrait mode head to idmsa.apple.com using Safari Mobile

2. Log into account

3. From feedbackassistant.apple.com -  enter in a bug report

4. Scroll back up and select the "Which area are you seeing an issue with?" drop down menu

5. Select any option in the "Which area are you seeing an issue with?" drop down

Result: the bottom banner UI (along with a blue "Submit" button) frequently becomes hidden while the user if filing out a bug report on feedbackassistant.apple.com using an iPhone in portrait mode

Expected: the bottom banner UI should always be visible and accessible to a user submit a bug report on feedbackassistant.apple.com

This is a feedback form. I can see the bottom banner and the "Submit" button...

I click inside the "Which area are you having an issue with?" drop-down menu. I then select the "Done" option...

The bottom banner has disappeared. If I scroll down, looking for the button...

I can't see the button anywhere! I have to change the phone from portrait to landscape to have the button reappear.

iOS 14: Facebook Messenger: An "albums" link has disappeared with iOS 14

iOS 14 with an iPhone 8

Facebook Messenger for iOS (version 282.0)

Date: 09/20/20

Description:

Here's a minor complaint about the Facebook Messenger app (version 282.0) and iOS 14. I immediately noticed this after updated to iOS 14 from 13.7.

The problem: You can no longer access the other albums from the camera roll. I can only seem to scroll through the "recent" album.

This is a bit perplexing, because for the last year, while using the Facebook Messenger app for iOS, I would scroll down from the recent photos until an "albums" option appeared in the upper right.

How am I supposed to access this option now? Am I supposed to download photos from shared albums onto my phone so that they show up in "recents" album list?

This is very perplexing, and not a great user experience for me. Hopefully this can be fixed.

This is much easier to to show than to describe, so please take a look at the attached screenshots.

I've given the Facebook Messenger iOS app full access...

Where in the world did the "albums" link go to? How am I suppose to access other photos from different albums? Is that now prohibited?

As a point of comparison, here's Facebook Messenger running on an iPad Mini that's running 12.3.1. This is exactly what I was used to seeing until it disappeared with iOS 14:

I scroll down through the photo rolls and an "albums" link appears! This is what I expect to see!

Steps to Reproduce:

1. On an iPhone 8 running iOS 14, open the Messenger app

2. Select any friend

3. Click on the gallery option to open photos

4. Continually scroll down - note the lack of an "albums" link to access other photo albums

Result: An albums link has suddenly disappeared from the Facebook Messenger app for iOS with the latest iOS 14 update. There does not appear to be a way to access other albums to select a photo

Expected: The "Albums" link should return! I used this link EVERY time I sent a photo using the Facebook Messenger app

In addition - it looks as if I am not the only user who has encountered this problem with iOS 14 and the Facebook Messenger app. Here are some reviews from the App Store...

iOS 14: Springboard - Phone Locked - Camera Wont Activate if Selected Via Icon on Springboard

 iOS 14

Camera activation via Springboard UI with phone locked

Date: 09/17/20

Description:

I believe that this is a brand new problem with iOS 14. I am not getting this to reproduce on older iOS versions such as 12.3.1. on an iPad Mini, but I haven't checked it against the previous 13.7.

You can access the camera if the device is locked using the camera icon from Springboard. The camera turns on (green light activates, and blurry image of camera is in background) but the UI of Springboard is overlaid on top of it.

Other apps, like the Calendar option, allow user access via Springboard without difficultly.

I believe that this is a new problem - the current behavior doesn't make much sense as it drains the battery. The user is able to take photos with the Springboard UI overlaid on the screen.

This is much easier to show than to describe, so please see the attached screenshots.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Update iOS device to iOS 14

2. Lock phone

3. Swipe left for Springboard

4. Select the search box

5. From "Siri Suggestions" select the Camera option (Camera activates with UI on screen)

6. Select "Cancel" option next to search box

Result: The camera is not automatically accessible when selected via icon from the Springboard UI while the phone is locked. The camera activates in the background, with UI overlaid onscreen

Expected: Not this. Should it enter the user into the camera - in the same way that the camera is accessible if the user swipes right from the locked home screen?

The iOS device is locked. Swipe over to activate the SpringBoard UI...

Select inside the search box at the top of the SpringBoard UI...

The camera has now activated in the background with the SpringBoard still present on screen. User can take photos using the volume controls on the phone...

Hard to see green (yellow? white?) dot in upper right is the only indication that the camera is currently active.

Weee! - Asian Grocery app for iOS: Select "Cancel" from a Facebook prompt still activates FB log-in page

 iOS 14

Weee! - Asian Grocery app for iOS (version 10.6.1)

Date: 09/17/20

Description:

Here's another minor problem with the Weee! - Asian Grocery app for iOS. This is easier to show than to describe, so please take a look at this video:

The app has an option to send out invites. If the user selects the Facebook option, there is this prompt:

This prompt is a bit problematic, because selecting the "Cancel" option still activates a Facebook log-in page. Selecting "Cancel" should not be doing this!

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download and launch the Weee! app

2. Create an account

3. Select the "Invite a Friend to Join" option

4. Select the "Send Invite Now" button

5. Select the Facebook option from the share menu

6. Select "Cancel" from the "Weee!" wants to open Facebook' prompt

Result: Selecting "Cancel" on an open Facebook prompt inside of the Weee! app isn't working - still activates a Facebook log-in

Expected: Selecting "Cancel" should work and cancel a process

After creating an account - select the "Invite a friend to join" option...

Select the "Send invite now!" button...

Select the "Facebook" option...

Select the "Cancel" option...

This Facebook login page is still activated - even though the user selected the "Cancel" option!

Weee! - Asian Grocery app for iOS: User restriction of camera roll access not respected

 iOS 13.7

Weee! - Asian Grocery app for iOS (version 10.6.1)

Date: 09/16/20

Description:

A somewhat common bug regarding access to the iOS camera roll occurs with the Weee! - Asian Grocery app for iOS.

Here are a couple of screenshots which explain the problem.

The prompt that asks permission to access the camera roll photos appears after the app has already accessed the camera roll. Declining access by selecting "Don't Allow" does nothing....

This error message appears which claims that Wheee! cannot access photos - even though the app has full access.

This has happened with a number of other apps, including Tangi, Neiman Marcus and TopShopUS. Some apps have fixed this, while others have not.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download and launch the Weee! app

2. Create a new account

3. Select the "Account" icon in the bottom right

4. Select the pencil icon

5. Select the "Picture" option on the "Account Profile" page

6. From the "Change Picture" screen select "Choose"

7. Select the "Photo Library" option

8. Note that the photo library menu and the user permission prompt appear at the same time

9. Select the "Don't Allow" option from the prompt

10. Note the dialog that says the app doesn't have access

11. Exit out and select "Photo Library" again

12. App has access to the Camera Roll

Result: The Weee! - Asian Grocery a pp doesn't recognize the user selecting "Don't Allow" from the camera roll permission prompt

Expected: The Weee! - Asian Grocery app should respect a user who selects "Don't Allow" from a camera roll permission prompt

Download the app...

Create an account and then select the pencil thing...

Select the "Picture" option...
Select the "Choose" option...

Select the "Photo Library" option...

Select the "Don't Allow" option...

Even though the user has specifically disallowed access, and even though the app presents a message about a lack of access, the app does, in fact, have full access.

Take a look at what the error message says - obviously not user-friendly:
