ChatGPT app for iOS: Error Messaging - OBJ in a TXT File Results in a File Upload Failed Error Message

 iOS 17.5.1

ChatGPT app for iOS (version 1.2024.170)

06/26/2024

Description:

There is a less than user friendly error message that is displayed when the user attempts to upload an unsupported file type (such as an empty TXT). Here's a screenshot of the error message that is displayed:

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Launch the ChatGPT app for iOS (version 1.2024.170)
2. Click inside the prompt input box
3. Click the Files option
4. Select a empty TXT file of small size

Result: The ChatGPT app repeatedly displays a "File upload failed." error message after an empty TXT file was uploaded

Expected: The ChatGPT app should not display an uninformative "File upload failed" error message if an empty TXT file is uploaded

Select the Files option...

Selected a TXT file

The TXT file (which I have no memory of how it ended up in my Files app, has a "OBJ" inside it when previewed using Gmail...

The ChatGPT throws up an error message that is, "technically descriptive but not user friendly."

I also decided to (naturally) ask for Chat GPT's opinion about the meaning of the error message:

Here's the initial response from ChatGPT:

Here's a follow-up question that I had:

ChatGPT replied with this:
